In professional AV, rapid gains in computing power are driving demand for greater video-interface density, flexibility and scalability. Traditional single PCI Express card designs are often constrained by physical space and fixed I/O, limiting their ability to handle complex multichannel signal processing. DELTACAST’s FLEX solution is a modular connectivity architecture designed to address those constraints.
FLEX is not a single capture card but a modular connection system. Its core architecture consists of two parts: a PCI Express gateway card, the DELTA-GWY, and video I/O modules connected through dedicated cables. The split design gives systems a high degree of flexibility, allowing users to deploy video I/O modules as floating devices or integrate them into a 19-inch FLEX rack for more efficient use of space.
The DELTA-GWY gateway card serves as the hub of the system. Four models are currently available, distinguished primarily by port count (4 or 8) and the number of PCIe lanes (8 or 16). Compatible FLEX modules fall into two categories, input/capture and output/playback, covering mainstream interfaces including 12G-SDI, DisplayPort and HDMI.
| Function type | Typical module models |
|---|---|
| Input/capture | FLEX-12G 10, FLEX-DP 10, FLEX-HMI 10 |
| Output/playback | FLEX-12G 01, FLEX-DP 01, FLEX-HMI 01 |
Each FLEX module can independently manage one or more video channels, and all modules are integrated within the unified VideoMaster SDK, simplifying development and integration.
To address timing issues common in high-density signal processing, FLEX-12G modules support an analog Genlock reference input. With DELTACAST’s frame-accurate synchronization capability, the system can ensure that connected output modules maintain precise frequency and phase alignment. That is critical for applications with strict timing requirements, such as multi-screen tiling and broadcast-grade playout.
With this architecture, Pro AV integrators can switch flexibly among SDI, DisplayPort and HDMI to build highly customized video processing workflows.
